RYC Father & Son of 2012

Russell and Ryan Erxleben forces to be reckoned with.

On Christmas morning Ryan and I chatted a little about joining the RYC Group on Facebook. Ryan who is the son of Russell Erxleben who was a Punter for the University of Texas in the 1970's and later went on to becoming the first round draft choice by the New Orleans Saints in 1979 to play many years in the NFL for the Saints and the Lions. Russell was a big 6'3 230 pound combination Punter / Kicker. He was known for his big booming leg and was in the NCAA record books for kicking the longest field goal. During his college career he kicked record setting field goals of 64 and 67 yards.
Well as I look back and see all that Ryan is doing with his life I am proud of him and his Father. When I first met Russell he told me I had the potential to really do something with my life. Saying that I had the take charge type of mind. He taught me a lot over a period of time visiting me dropping off the Wall Street Journal keeping me up on stocks of interest. He use to like to hear me say "You can't catch fish watching my line". lol  Some of the best moments in my life was having him take time out to teach me day after day how to overcome what life dishes out. Today I sit back and I look and tell myself as I have told Ryan time and time again whenever we talk that his father loves his family.
There are times when we tend to be issued the sour things of life many being out of our control. Russell told me one day as we spent hours watching the stocks channel that in this life Fatherhood is more important than life because other lives depend on the life of that father. And he said if it takes all he has in him his son will have one. And years later on down the road he has kept his word. Ryan was named all-state as a punter and defensive end at Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. He was a member of the two-time state champions going 15-1 in 2007 and 16-0 in 2008. As a  freshman Ryan Erxleben became the starting punter at Texas Tech University and is working hard doing what he does best. He believes that when you work hard good things will happen. Today Represent Your City is proud to announce with great honors our Father & Son of the year. Not because I know of these two men but because I know of the hard work both of them has put in their roles as a father and a son. May you continue to play your roles in life and we here at Represent Your City thanks you for being a part of RYC.
